Anderlecht soccer star faces racial abuse hearing

4 November 2005

BRUSSELS — Anderlecht striker Nenad Jestrovic will be called before UEFA officials on Monday to answer claims he racially abused Liverpool’s Momo Sissoko.

The incident is alleged to have occurred during the Champions League tie on Tuesday, CNN reported on Thursday.

The hearing will come after Danish referee Kim Milton Nielsen dismissed Nielsen after a clash with Sissoko in which he allegedly abused the player.

Jestrovic is willing to go to court to clear his name and accused Mali international Sissoko of “changing his story” and abusing him.

The Serbian striker — who was the top scorer in the Belgian First Division last season — was to meet with his lawyers on Friday.

Jestrovic’s dismissal was the first time a player had been sent off for racial abuse in the Champions League.

However, another Serbian, Sinisa Mihajlovic, was suspended for two matches for racist abuse against Arsenal players in 2000.
