On Thursday 14 June 2018, at 6:30 pm, at the Museum of the City of Brussels (Maison du Roi).

With his Civil Code, Napoleon imposed a very masculine reading of the human species. But if one accepts that (until further notice) it takes two to make a child, then children are not just their father’s descendants but come from two parents. And as you go back through your ancestors, the figures explode: four grandparents, then 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 ancestors, and that's only in 10 generations. That is how the protagonists of the great events that shook Brussels and Europe in the 16th century saw themselves. Which leads to a very different reading of history.

The event is part of the Carolus V Festival.
