Convicted S.African top cop hospitalised: lawyer
South Africa's former police chief and ex-Interpol president Jackie Selebi was hospitalised on Friday after losing an appeal against his graft conviction, his lawyer said.
Selebi collapsed at his Pretoria home shortly after the verdict and was taken to hospital by ambulance, his legal representative Wynanda Coetzee told City Press online.
"He is not doing well," Coetzee said.
Selebi now faces 15 years in prison after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld trial findings that he had accepted bribes from organised crime.
"We are very worried... he can't walk," Coetzee said.
The former top cop may still mount a challenge at the Constitutional Court, the country's highest tribunal.
