William and Catherine leave Britain for Canada tour
Prince William and his wife Catherine left Britain on Thursday for a nine-day tour of Canada, kicking off their first official foreign trip as husband and wife, a royal official said.
The 29-year-old newlyweds flew out of London's Heathrow airport and will arrive in Ottawa later in the day, a royal spokeswoman told AFP.
"They have departed. It was earlier this morning," said the spokeswoman, who declined to give an exact departure time.
The visit will be both casual and action-packed, taking in military ceremonies, a cooking class, aboriginal sports and a rodeo.
The wedding of William, second in line to the British throne, and Catherine at London's Westminster Abbey on April 29 was watched on television by two billion people around the world.
Their every move in Canada will be followed by 1,300 journalists and throngs of fans.
