US praises Italy's 'careful consideration' of Knox case
The United States on Monday said it appreciated the "careful consideration" of the case of Amanda Knox in the Italian courts, following her acquittal on murder and sexual assault charges.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland also said the US embassy in Rome would continue to provide "appropriate consular assistance" to the 24-year-old Knox and her family.
"The United States appreciates the careful consideration of this matter within the Italian judicial system," Nuland said.
Knox was released from the Capanne prison near Perugia in central Italy after her acquittal. She was expected to fly back to the United States on Tuesday.
