US congratulates British royal couple
The White House congratulated Britain's Prince William and his bride Kate Middleton on their marriage Friday, and wished the future king and queen a lifetime of happiness.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a written statement that the United States had no greater friend than Britain, where President Barack Obama is expected for a state visit next month.
"We congratulate Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on their wedding today and wish them a lifetime of happiness together," Carney said.
"On this occasion, the American people extend heartfelt congratulations to the peoples of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth and share in their hopes for a bright future for the Royal couple."
Carney said earlier that Obama had caught a couple of moments of the royal wedding coverage blanketing US news shows as he had his breakfast before heading south to Alabama to view tornado damage.
