A private plane crashed in the south of France on Friday, killing the two people aboard whom police believe were British, police said.

The Piper plane was flying from Luchia in Italy on its way to Troyes in central France when radio contact was lost.

A search and rescue mission found the plane's wreckage and two bodies on a mountainside near Menton on the Mediterranean coast near the Italian border.

The dead "could be English, according to their mobile phones," local police official Raymond Floc'h told AFP.
