Two Britons were killed Saturday when their helicopter crashed in a mountainous area of the Spanish island of Majorca, local police and fire services said.

The Civil Guard said the helicopter came down between Andratx and Estellecs, adding that the reason for the crash was not known.

A fire brigade spokesman said the occupants were killed immediately and the helicopter totally destroyed. He said access to the area was difficult.

The two dead were not identified but police said the British consulate on the Mediterranean island popular with tourists had been informed.
