French energy giant Total said Friday that it could sell its 480 petrol stations in Britain as part of a strategic review by its British arm.

"Total UK can confirm it is undertaking a strategic review of its UK downstream operations," a statement said.

"As part of this review it is considering the sale of its marketing assets in the UK." A further 300 independent petrol stations carry Total branding.
