Standard Chartered, the bank focused on emerging markets, on Wednesday announced net profits for 2010 of $4.2 billion (3.05 billion euros), up 29 percent.

The results represented an eighth successive year of record income and profit, said chief executive Peter Sands, adding that the bank had also made a record start to 2011.

"This has been a strong year for the group, with good growth in volumes as we take market share from our competitors," he added.
