Anglo-Dutch energy giant Royal Dutch Shell said Monday it has restarted production at Norway's largest gas field off the coast after it was shut down last week following technical problems.

"Production restarted overnight Friday," Shell spokeswoman Kitty Eide told AFP, adding that the Ormen Lange field was now producing at full capacity.

The company did not detail the problems at the field which supplies 20 percent of British natural gas needs.
