SABMiller, Anadolu Efes announce beer partnership
SABMiller, the world's second biggest brewer, announced an alliance with Turkish rival Anadolu Efes on Wednesday aimed at growing beer sales in Central Asia, the Middle East, Turkey and Russia.
The Britain-based group will take a 24-percent stake in the maker of Efes beer, while the producer of Miller Lite and Grolsch will offer its Russian and Ukrainian beer divisions whose total equity and debt value is $1.9 billion.
SABMiller, which last month agreed a takeover of Australian beer giant Foster's for around US$10 billion, said the latest deal was "highly attractive."
"The prospects for these markets are excellent," SABMiller chief executive Graham Mackay added in a company statement.
Separately on Wednesday, SABMiller said its first-half sales in the six months to September 30 rose 6.0 percent from a year earlier due to robust demand in emerging markets.
