RugbyU: Wales team saddened by mining tragedy
The Welsh rugby team took time out from their World Cup preparations to send condolences Saturday after four people died in a mining accident in South Wales.
Assistant coach Rob Howley said players and team officials were saddened by the flash-flooding tragedy near Swansea which plunged the community into mourning.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the mining community," Howley said.
"Mining has been a huge tradition and history in Wales. From the Welsh Rugby Union, players and management, our thoughts are with all the families and friends who have been through a difficult time over the last three or four days."
Howley was speaking to journalists in Hamilton in New Zealand, where Wales will play Samoa in Pool D on Sunday.
