Romanian police have arrested a British lorry driver for allegedly sexually abusing young boys and making child pornography, with two victims found in his truck, police said Thursday.

"James C., 33, was detained last Saturday as part of an investigation into a missing nine-year-old boy," Mihaela Straub, spokeswoman for police in Vaslui, north-eastern Romania, told AFP.

Police stopped the lorry and searched it, finding the missing boy and another minor aged 13 in the cab, as well as a laptop containing "obscene images involving minors."

Investigators say that between August 18 and 22, the truck driver recruited Romanian minors aged nine to 14 from poor families and then sexually abused them, filming the abuse and downloading it to his laptop.

Five alleged victims have so far been identified.

The Briton can be held for 29 days pending the police investigation.
