Reckitt Benckiser sees 2010 net profits jump
Reckitt Benckiser, the Anglo-Dutch household products and drugs group, said Wednesday that annual profits leapt 11 percent, aided by key brands like Nurofen headache treatments and Lysol disinfectant.
Earnings after tax increased to £1.568 billion (1.85 billion euros, $2.52 billion) last year, compared with 2009, the group announced in a results statement. Revenues soared nine percent to £8.453 billion.
The London-based company was lifted by its so-called "powerbrand" products that also include Air Wick air fresheners, Dettol surface cleaners, Finish dishwasher products and Vanish stain removers.
"Reckitt Benckiser enjoyed another year of market-beating results, despite declining global market growth," said Chief Executive Bart Becht, noting that the group achieved "excellent developing markets growth."
He added: "Our strategy of focusing on our powerbrands, behind new product initiatives and high levels of marketing investment, is one that continues to deliver."
The group bought Durex condom maker SSL last year for 2.54 billion pounds, expanding its health and personal care business.
