Reckitt Benckiser logs rising profits
Reckitt Benckiser, the Anglo-Dutch household products and drugs group, on Tuesday posted rising first-quarter net profits as the group was lifted by sales of its key branded goods.
Net earnings jumped 15 percent to 348 million pounds (403 million euros, 533 million dollars) in the three months to the end of March, compared with the same part of 2009, the company said in a results statement.
Reckitt said it was lifted by its so-called "powerbrand" products that include Air Wick air fresheners, Nurofen headache treatments, Dettol surface cleaners and Vanish stain removers.
"Reckitt Benckiser had a good first quarter in 2010," said Chief Executive Bart Becht in the earnings release.
"This result was supported by successful new product initiatives, and significant investment in media and marketing across our powerbrand portfolio."
Total sales increased by five percent to 2.003 billion pounds in the reporting period.
