Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, are to visit the United Arab Emirates in November, the British embassy said on Tuesday.

"The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will pay a state visit to the United Arab Emirates, at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, and Oman, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, during this autumn," it said in a statement.

"They will visit Abu Dhabi between 24th and 25th November, and Muscat between 25 and 28 November," it said on the embassy website.

It will be the second time the queen and her husband have visited the UAE and Oman, it said, adding that the visit to Oman will mark the 40th anniversary of the sultan's rule.

The seven emirates that now make up the UAE were British protected states until independence in 1971, while Oman has a history of close economic and military relations with Britain.
