Polls open in British general election

Polling stations opened in Britain Thursday for what is expected to be the closest general election for decades.

Some 50,000 polling stations will close at 10:00 pm (2100 GMT), with the first results expected within two hours.

Opinion polls show the opposition Conservatives are likely to win most seats but fall short of an absolute majority in parliament, leading to a hung parliament and subsequent scramble for power.
