Polish police bust major illegal cigarette factory
Polish police said Tuesday they had busted a major illegal cigarette factory in a suburb of the southern city of Krakow, whose products were probably aimed at the British market.
"The factory was equipped with two complete production lines turning out cigarettes," Krakow police spokesman Dariusz Nowak told AFP.
During a search in the plant equipped with sound-proof walls, the police found more than eight tonnes of fine-cut tobacco and other components including filters, packs and paper, allowing for the production of 2.5 million cigarette packs.
"This factory probably produced cigarettes to be sold on the British market," said Nowak.
The police have questioned a 23-year-old Krakow resident suspected of being involved in producing the contraband.
