Pensioner on British sex charges after Australia extradition
A 77-year-old man who was extradited from Australia appeared in a British court on Wednesday charged with a string of London child sex attacks dating back to 1949.
Reginald Davis was remanded in custody during an appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London facing 16 charges, including several counts of raping a child under 12, over a period of about 20 years.
Davis, originally from Wales, arrived back in Britain earlier Wednesday from Australia, where he had been living in Wanneroo, Perth.
London police said he held British nationality but they did not know whether he also had Australian citizenship.
Dressed in a lumberjack shirt, he showed no emotion and spoke only to confirm his name and address as judge Elizabeth Roscoe ordered the case to be sent to a higher court.
He will appear in court again on December 9.
He faces four counts of raping a child, three of attempted rape, eight of indecent assault and one of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency, all in the London area.
The first charge is dated April 16, 1949, with the last on November 16, 1971. The majority of the attacks took place in the 1950s.
