New British PM to visit France, Germany
New British Prime Minister David Cameron will visit France and Germany later this week, his first announced foreign trips since taking office, his office said Tuesday.
Cameron will travel to Paris on Thursday for talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and Berlin on Friday to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel, said a Downing Street spokesman.
In Paris, Sarkozy said Cameron was due to have dinner with the French leader on Thursday.
Earlier the German leader's spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said Cameron would be welcomed with military honours at the chancellery in Berlin. A joint press conference will follow.
Downing Street had not immediately commented on the initial German announcement, before confirming both the Paris and Berlin trips after they had been announced in Berlin then Paris.
US President Barack Obama has invited Cameron to visit him in July, and the new British premier is expected at the Group of 20 summit in Toronto next month.
