Mobile operators 'instructed' to suspend Egypt services
All mobile operators in Egypt have been "instructed" Friday to suspend services in some areas amid widespread protests against President Hosni Mubarak's rule, Vodafone said in a statement.
"All mobile operators in Egypt have been instructed to suspend services in selected areas," the British-based company said, adding that under Egyptian law it was "obliged" to comply with the order.
The statement added: "The Egyptian authorities will be clarifying the situation in due course."
No Vodafone spokesman was immediately available to comment.
Reports from Egypt have said Internet connections were cut across the country early Friday.
Mobile phone signals were patchy and text messages inoperative, affecting the ability of protesters to communicate with each other.
