Libya's air force "no longer exists as a fighting force" following international coalition air strikes, a top British military officer was quoted as saying Wednesday by British media.

Air Vice Marshall Greg Bagwell, speaking during a visit to an airbase in southern Italy where RAF warplanes enforcing a no-fly zone are based, said Libyan ground forces were also being attacked when they threaten civilians.

"Effectively, their air force no longer exists as a fighting force," Bagwell was quoted as saying after meeting RAF airmen operating from the Gioia del Colle base.
