Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg hailed a "new kind of government" Wednesday after his party's lawmakers overwhelmingly approved Britain's first coalition government since World War II.

"We are going to form a new kind of government," Clegg said, after the deal with the larger Conservative party of new Prime Minister David Cameron was given the green light.

"I hope this is the start of the new politics I have always believed in," said Clegg, who was appointed deputy prime minister in the new coalition government which resulted from Britain's first hung parliament in 36 years.
