How the royal wedding unfolded
Prince William married Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday, here we look at how Britain's biggest royal wedding for 30 years unfolded in London on Friday:
8:15 am London time (0715GMT) - David and Victoria Beckham, singer Elton John and Australian swimming icon Ian Thorpe are among the 1,900 guests who start to arrive at Westminster Abbey.
10:18 am - Prince William, resplendent in his scarlet Irish Guards officer uniform, complete with Garter sash and star, Royal Air Force "wings" and a Golden Jubilee medal, arrives at the abbey together with best man and brother Prince Harry.
10:38 am - William's father Charles, The Prince of Wales and wife Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, arrive at the abbey.
10:42 am - The Queen, wearing a vivid yellow dress, and husband Phillip are driven to the abbey from Buckingham Palace, drawing loud cheers from the massed crowds lining the streets.
10:51 am - Kate emerges from the exclusive Goring Hotel and billions of royal watchers around the world get a first brief look at her dress as she climbs into a Rolls-Royce Phantom with her father Michael.
11:00 am - William gets his first glimpse of his bride, looking stunning in a ivory satin gown with lace applique floral detail designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen fashion house, as she completes her walk up the aisle, with her train held by her sister and maid of honour Pippa.
11:02 am - The ceremony begins after a smiling William appears to pause to tell Kate "you look beautiful".
11:10 am - William replies "I will" in a confident voice to the Archbishop of Canterbury's question about whether he would "love, comfort, honour and keep" Kate. His bride spoke more softly when she said "I will" in response to the same question.
11:15 am - William and Kate are pronounced man and wife by the Archbishop of Canterbury after a flawless exchange of vows and Kate's ring - a slim band made by royal warrant holder Wartski from a nugget of Welsh gold - is coaxed onto her finger by William.
12:15 pm - After signing the wedding register in the enclosed Chapel of St Edward the Confessor, William and Kate leave the abbey and wave to the jubilant crowds.
12:20 pm - The newlyweds climb into an open-top 1902 State Landau - the same fairytale horse-drawn carriage used by Charles and Diana on their wedding day 30 years earlier - for the journey back to Buckingham Palace, flanked by an escort of the Household Cavalry.
12:30 pm - The carriage procession arrives at Buckingham Palace, where official photos are taken before a brief period of rest for the happy couple.
1:25 pm - Kate gasps "oh wow" as she and William emerge onto the balcony at the front of the Palace and wave to an estimated 500,000 crowd before being joined by the rest of the bridal party.
1:28 pm - William appears to say "shall we kiss" before leaning towards Kate and kissing her on the lips. The brief moment passes too quickly for the crowd who chant "kiss, kiss, kiss", prompting a second longer clinch from the couple during a flyover of British World War II planes.
1:35 pm - Taking one last look at the crowds, Kate follows her husband back into the Palace for a reception for 650 guests, which featured an eight-tiered fruitcake and 10,000 canapes.
3:38 pm - In a surprise finale to the public celebrations, William drives Kate from the Palace to their residence at Clarence House in an Aston Martin belonging to Prince Charles and decked out in ballons, with the mock licence plate JU5TWED and 'L' plates on the front.
