Guardian correspondent broke media rules: Russia
The Guardian correspondent who was barred from entering Russia had broken media rules but may be allowed back into the country if he fixes his accreditation problems, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said that Luke Harding had applied for a new journalist's accreditation in November but then left Moscow for London on personal business without receiving the new press card.
He left "without receiving his (newly) issued foreign journalist's accreditation despite knowing that he must" obtain one, the foreign ministry said.
The ministry added that if the Guardian's Moscow correspondent "complies with these rules, which apply to all foreign correspondents, there should be no problems for L. Harding's entry to the Russian Federation."
