Football: Saints star hospitalised after nightclub attack
Southampton defender Danny Seaborne is in hospital after suffering serious injuries in an assault outside a nightclub.
Police have arrested two men, aged 35 and 29, after Seaborne was found lying on the ground with serious head injuries following an attack in the early hours of Friday morning outside Junk nightclub in Southampton.
The 24-year-old, who has starred in Southampton's impressive start to their Championship campaign, had been inside the nightclub with friends earlier in the evening when an argument took place.
The row then escalated outside and police were called before Seaborne was treated at the scene by paramedics.
He was then taken to Southampton General Hospital, where his condition was initially feared to be life-threatening but is now described as "serious but stable".
"Investigating officers are now trying to establish the circumstances that led to the man sustaining his injuries and although they have identified a number of witnesses, they are appealing for others to come forward," a spokesman said.
The nightclub and a neighbouring estate agency remained sealed off by police tape with a police community support officer standing guard at the scene.
