Eurotunnel workers to decide Saturday on strike
Eurotunnel employees will decide early Saturday whether to launch an indefinite strike, which would seriously disrupt cross-Channel traffic, after the failure of the negotiations with management.
"There has been a warning of a strike, we will see tomorrow morning if the strike will be held or not," a union official who requested anonymity told AFP.
Talks between Eurotunnel and the unions, which are demanding a 14th month of salary, broke down Friday evening, as the company claimed the demand was "unrealistic in this current economic context".
Eurotunnel told AFP it had offered a 200-euro (290-dollar) bonus and proposed reviewing its pay scale, which was rejected by the unions.
Eurotunnel also said it would do all it could to see to it that clients who have reserved places this weekend will be able to travel, although earlier this week it suspended taking more reservations for Saturday and Sunday.
