Eurotunnel seeking buyer for maritime business MyFerryLink
Eurotunnel said on Friday it is seeking a buyer for its maritime business MyFerryLink, after British authorities banned it from operating the sea link from Dover.
The company's statement came minutes after Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal upheld an earlier ruling to halt Eurotunnel's ferry service from the southern English port of Dover to France's Calais on grounds of unfair competition.
"In view of the requirement to cease operations within six months, which has been confirmed, and to realise the value of the work achieved, Groupe Eurotunnel will now seek a buyer for MyFerryLink," the company said in a statement.
The brand MyFerryLink came into existence after Eurotunnel in 2012 acquired the three ferries and related assets of SeaFrance.
MyFerryLink is one of three companies operating the Dover-Calais line along with DFDS Seaways and P&O Ferries.
It employs some 533 people in France and 71 in Britain.
