Eurostar passenger train services resume: company
Eurostar passenger rail services between Britain and continental Europe resumed Saturday, a spokeswoman told AFP, following a stand-still triggered by a fire alert.
"The traffic is resuming now, we have received authorisation from Eurotunnel. But we expect a knock-on effect on the schedule," the spokeswoman said.
Channel Tunnel rail services had been suspended after a fire alert caused by smoke.
The incident happened shortly after 0600 GMT, said a spokeswoman for Eurotunnel, which runs freight services through the under-sea rail link.
"There was some smoke emanating from a shuttle transporting trucks. Within 10 minutes all passengers were evacuated into the service tunnel," she told AFP.
Eurotunnel indicated they too hoped to resume services later Saturday.
