EU must deal with 'gravity' of eurozone debt crisis: Britain
British finance minister George Osborne urged his EU colleagues on Friday to recognise and deal with the "gravity" of the eurozone debt crisis, adding that a strong euro was in Britain's interests.
Addressing business leaders in Manchester, northwest England, before a meeting of European Union finance ministers in Poland on Friday, Osborne said:
"I will be looking for my European colleagues to send a clear signal that they truly recognise the gravity of the situation and that they are dealing with it."
Chancellor of the Exchequer Osborne added that Britain, which is not part of the eurozone, took no joy from the bloc's major debt problems.
"Let us take no relish at all from their problems. Let's have no schadenfreude. A successful euro is massively in Britain's national interests," Osborne said. The eurozone is a key trading partner of Britain.
