Court date for man accused in S.Africa honeymoon murder
A man accused of abducting and killing a Swedish newlywed on her honeymoon in Cape Town made a brief court appearance Thursday but had his case postponed because he did not have a lawyer.
Xolile Mngeni, 26, will appear in court again on November 25, said National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga when he will have a legal aid lawyer.
Mngeni and another suspect who is still at large are accused of abducting 28-year-old Anni Dewani and her British husband Shrien Dewani on the outskirts of Cape Town last Saturday.
The hijackers released the 31-year-old husband but his wife's body was later found in an impoverished township neighbourhood southeast of central Cape Town.
Mngeni is charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances, Mhaga said.
