Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledged Wednesday to establish quick working ties with Britain's new government when she spoke to new Foreign Secretary William Hague, the State Department said.

The chief US diplomat "pledged to establish (a) working relationship with the new government quickly," when she spoke to Hague earlier Wednesday, the State Department said in a tweet.

Hague, who led the Conservatives between 1997 and 2001, was appointed his party's foreign affairs spokesman in 2005 and was on Tuesday named the foreign secretary in the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government.
