China 'ready to abandon North Korea': leaked US document
China is "ready to abandon North Korea" and would accept unification of the peninsula, according to official leaked US documents published in Monday's Guardian newspaper.
South Korean vice-foreign minister, Chun Yung-woo, told a US ambassador that Chinese Communist party leaders "no longer regarded North Korea as a useful or reliable ally," according to a memo revealed by the WikiLeaks website.
The South Korean official also said that China "would not be able to stop North Korea's collapse following the death of leader Kim Jong-il."
