A 40-year-old British man, Stephen Griffiths, was charged with murder Thursday over the killing of three prostitutes in northern England, a prosecutor said.

"I have decided that there is sufficient evidence to charge Stephen Griffiths with their murders and that it is in the public interest to do so," said Peter Mann of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Suzanne Blamires, 36, went missing last Friday, Shelley Armitage, 31, has been missing since last month, and Susan Rushworth, 43, disappeared last June. The remains of Blamires were found in a river on Tuesday.
