British tourist killed by Jerusalem bomb: foreign office
A British woman visiting Israel was killed when a bomb ripped through a bus in Jerusalem, British officials said Thursday.
Israeli officials earlier said a woman died and more than 30 people were wounded in Wednesday's blast, the first in the Holy City in nearly seven years.
"We can confirm a British national was killed in a bus bomb in Jerusalem on the 23rd of March," a Foreign Office spokeswoman told AFP, without giving further details.
A spokeswoman for the British embassy separately confirmed the dead Briton was the lone fatality in the bombing.
"I can confirm she was a British national, a tourist," Karen Kaufman told AFP, saying the embassy was in touch with the woman's family.
She would not confirm the woman's identity nor her age, which Israeli press reports said was around 60.
The woman was critically injured in the blast and died on the way to hospital, medical officials said.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague called it a "callous and disgusting act of terrorism."
It was the first such bomb attack to hit the Holy City since September 2004, when a female bomber blew herself up at a bus stop in east Jerusalem, killing two people and injuring 17.
