British sailors rescued off French coast

Seven Britons clung to the hull of their overturned boat off the northwest coast of France before being plucked to safety by a rescue helicopter, authorities said Thursday.

Strong gusts overturned their prize-winning catamaran on Wednesday evening.

But despite several hours stranded on the upturned craft all were deemed to be in good health by doctors, maritime authorities in Brittany said.

Rescuers finally arrived around midnight Wednesday, after a distress beacon was released from the craft.
