Retail sales in Britain rose by 0.5 percent in October from September, snapping two months of falls, official data showed Thursday.

However, they dropped by 0.1 percent in October compared with 12 months earlier, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement.

The monthly increase was in line with market expectations, while economists had forcast a 0.1-percent gain on a 12-month basis.
