Britain's public deficit rose to 20.7 billion pounds in September, official data showed on Wednesday as the nation's government prepared to announce massive spending cuts to slash huge debt.

The so-called public sector net cash requirement rose to 20.7 billion pounds (23.5 billion euros, 32.5 billion dollars) compared with a deficit of 19.2 billion pounds in September 2009, the Office for National Statistics said.
