British police release reporter from Murdoch tabloid
A journalist from Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper stable who was arrested by detectives investigating payments to police officers has been released on bail, Scotland Yard said Saturday.
Media reports said the man was Jamie Pyatt, who has worked for the past two decades for The Sun tabloid, the sister paper of The News of the World weekly which was closed in July amid a scandal over phone hacking.
Britain's Scotland Yard police headquarters said the 48-year-old man arrested Friday morning had been bailed Friday night to return in March pending further enquiries.
News International confirmed that one of its employees had been arrested.
The man was the sixth person to be arrested in Operation Elvedon, the investigation into what Scotland Yard called "allegations of inappropriate payments to police".
