British 12-month inflation leapt to 4.5 percent in April, hitting the highest level for more than two years, from 4.0 percent in March, official data showed on Tuesday.

Consumer price index (CPI) inflation was driven last month by the rising cost of transportation, alcoholic drinks, tobacco, and domestic gas and electricity, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement.
