British industrial production ground to a halt in August from activity in July, but grew on an annual basis, official data showed on Tuesday.

Output was unchanged in August from activity in July.

But over 12 months it rose by 2.5 percent, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement.

Manufacturing output -- excluding mining and quarrying, electricity, gas and water supply -- climbed just 0.1 percent in August compared with the level in July.

But over 12 months it rose by 3.4 percent.
