Britain's industrial output fell 0.2 percent in July from the June level, official data showed on Wednesday.

Industrial production dropped 0.7 percent in July on a 12-month comparison, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also said in a statement.

Manufacturing output, which excludes mining and quarrying, as well as the electricity, gas and water supply sectors, rose by 0.1 percent in July from June, and by 1.9 percent on an annual basis.

"July's industrial production data confirm that the sector made a very weak start to the third quarter," said Samuel Tombs, an analyst at Capital Economics research group.
