British PM to visit Italy for Berlusconi dinner: official

British Prime Minister David Cameron is to have dinner with his Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi this week, a Downing Street spokeswoman said Monday.

Cameron will have a "working dinner" with Berlusconi in Rome on Wednesday, the spokeswoman told reporters, without giving further details.

The British prime minister took power as leader of a coalition government in May after his centre-right Conservative party failed to win an overall majority at a general election.

Berlusconi last week split with a key ally, Gianfranco Fini, with whom he co-founded the People of Freedom party last year, in a major blow to his parliamentary coalition.
