Britain upgrades Bahrain travel warning after protests

Britain on Sunday advised its nationals against all travel to Bahrain after security forces in the Gulf state fired tear gas and rubber bullets at anti-regime demonstrators.

"The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has changed its travel advice to advise against all travel to the Kingdom of Bahrain and ask that British nationals in Bahrain remain at home until further notice," the FCO said in a statement.

"We have done this in response to an intensification of protests and continuing unrest," the statement said, adding: "We call on the authorities to avoid the use of excessive force and on all parties to exercise restraint."
