Britain strikes armoured vehicles in Libya: MoD
British Tornado jets launched missiles overnight at Libyan armoured vehicles which were threatening civilians in the strategic eastern oil town of Ajdabiya, Defence Secretary Liam Fox said Friday.
"British Tornado GR4 aircraft, on armed reconnaissance missions over Libya, last night took part in a co-ordinated missile strike against units of Colonel (Moamer) Kadhafi's Libyan military in support of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973," Fox said in a statement.
"The Tornado aircraft launched a number of guided Brimstone missiles at Libyan armoured vehicles which were threatening the civilian population of Ajdabiya."
Britain is involved in multinational military action to implement the UN Security Council, which authorised the use of all necessary measures to enforce a ceasefire and no-fly zone to protect civilians from Kadhafi's forces.
