Britain says change in Egypt needed 'urgently'
British Prime Minister David Cameron's spokesman said Thursday that change in Egypt was needed urgently, as President Hosni Mubarak's regime tottered in the face of massive protests.
"There needs to be a broad-based government and a roadmap for change," the spokesman said. "It needs to happen urgently."
Cameron and the British government made similar calls for urgent change in Egypt earlier in the crisis, which has gripped the country since January 25.
The spokesman's comments came as Egypt's military said it would respond to the "legitimate" demands of the people, although it was not immediately clear if the announcement spelled the end of Mubarak's 30-year-reign.
