Two Ukrainian coastguards were hurt and the fate of five more remained uncertain Sunday after a blast tore through their small patrol boat in the flashpoint port of Mariupol, officials said.

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service said the cutter "exploded for undisclosed reasons".

It added that "information about the state of the other servicemen is still being established".

The eastern outskirts of the strategic Sea of Azov port, most if it controlled by pro-Kiev forces, has been under attack from pro-Russian militias for weeks.
