US scientists synthesize "hybrid" cell

US scientists report a breakthrough in artificial life forms. A group of researchers led by Craig Venter, one of the pioneers of genetic engineering, has synthesized the genom of one microorganism, Mycoplasma mycoides, and implanted it into another microorganism, Mycoplasma capriolum, from where all genes had been removed.
