Two tourists dead in Russian Caucaus avalanche: ministry
Two Russian tourists were killed Sunday in an avalanche in Russia's Northern Caucasus region of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Russian ministry of emergency situations said.
Interfax news agency quoted a ministry official as saying rescue workers retrieved the bodies of the two tourists on Mount Tcheget at an altitude of 3,600 metres (10,800 feet).
The Echo of Moscow radio station said the victims hailed from Moscow.
Three other tourists who were part of another group were later swept away in a second avalanche in the same area but rescue teams managed to pull them out alive, the ministry official added.
He said the area was known to be dangerous and had been barred to tourists.
